"The Red Lightning" in new International Top Fight!

Courtesy of  Fightergalla

Kenneth Rosfort from Fightcraft will fight Franco de Leonardis in the main-event Fightergalla 12 the 6th of February '01.

Franco de Leonardis has fought several times in the M-1 challenge and has an overall record of 11-4-0. He is a BJJ Black belt under Gracie Barra and holds 2 European grappling championships.

Undoubtedly this fight will be one of the toughest test of Rosfort, but a victory is going to open a lot of doors for the danish striker.

Kenka MMA sparring glove review

The first thing that is good to know about these gloves is that they are no where near as big as the ones on the picture. I don't know what the producers of mma gloves are thinking about, but all the gloves who used to have padding suitable for intense sparring has cut down the amount of padding used. Both fairtex and kenka says that they used a better padding, but if that is the case why don't they use the same amount of padding and get a better product.

Like all other gloves the padding starts out hard, but gets pretty soft after some time and if you hit hard your opponent might feel the knuckle throughout the padding, but that is not the biggest problem. Area of you hand that is protected by the padding is so small, that if you throw a slightly sloppy hook them thing betwen your knuckle and your partners face is a thin piece of leather. This is both painful for your sparring partner and might end up ruining your hand or cutting your partner.

The feel of the gloves are okay, but the padding sits a little loose on top of the hard, which can be a little annoying. The Kenka gloves does not give much support for the wrist or the hand. Instead it feels more like a pillow strapped to the hand.

The quality of the gloves is fair. The leather is thick on every part of the glove but the lining get worn out after some time, which also count for the elastic band holding it together.

Conclusion
These gloves aren't worth the money. There a tons of other gloves in the same price range that has a lot better padding and feel to them. The quality is not the best, but it is good compared to other gloves in the price range.
My advice is, that is you avoid these gloves you have done your team mates and your selfs a big favor.

Danish MMA Fighters

Updated: 2009-11-22
You don't have to be very in to mma, to know about the danish UFC fighter Martin Kampmann, but there are many other very good danish fighters.
Denmark does not have a long history of MMA and martial arts are not as common as in USA, Japan or Brazil, so many of the pros are still fighting their way up on the international scene.
There is also quite a lot of talent on the amateur level, but this is only a list of pro danish MMA fighters. I have only included the ones who still fights actively, has a record of more than 1 pro fight and has made an impression. Here it goes

Martin Kampmann (22 - 4 - 0)
Although he took quite a beating from Paul Daley, and went ranking as 5th welterweight in the world to 9th(according to www.sherdog.com/), he considered a very dangerous striker with a solid ground game.

Kenneth Rosfort (12 - 2 - 0)
A lightweight that with his awesome victory over former TUF cast member Jeff Lawson, brought him right up the European MMA top. It will be exciting to see what the future brings for this talented striker.

Sonny Nielsen (10 - 3 - 0)
The lightweight from Fightgym is not competing a the moment, he has many exciting victories on the international MMA scene.

Mikkel Guldbæk (7-2-2 )
Mikkel has been fighting for a very long time and is a well know fighter, who gets most of his wins from submissions. He had to cancel his fight at Fightergalla 9 due to back injuries, but there is hopefully many fights left in him.

Rasmus Bendtsen (8 - 2 - 0)
The lightweight from team Fightpit has been awarded a titleshot at the 10th Legion Championships lightweight title against Abdul Mohammed.

Morten Djursaa (7 -2 - 0)
Morten has an ability to make people quit. The welterweight from fightgym.dk won his last fight against Alan Carlos by TKO from lowkicks!

David Rosmon (4 - 4 - 0)
The welterweight from fightgym.dk has had some really tough competition taking fights all over Europe. So don't get fooled by the record this guy has a really solid ground game.

Nick Osei (5 - 4 - 0)
This long legged middleweight from checkmat MMA, has fought a great deal of good fighters and with his exciting style the is never a boring fight!

Frodi Vitalis Hansen (3 - 3 - 0)
Although this middleweight has not fought in some time due to an injury, he is a very ambitious and a talented grappler fighting out Fightcraft.dk

Cole Lauritsen (3 - 2 - 0)
A welterweight on his way back in the fightgame after an impressive victory over Ståle Nyang at the Zone FC.

Nikolai Koubti (3 - 1 - 0)
An awesome grappler from fightcraft.dk who fights in the middleweight devision.

Danny Petterson (3 - 1 - 0)
He is back after a long break, although he got removed from the fightcard at FG 9, he plans on taking more fights and bring home some victories for fightgym.

Joachim Christensen (2 - 0 - 0)
This big guy fighting out of Arte Suave steam rolled his opponent at Fightergalla 9 and I am looking forward to see more of that!

Christoffer Hansen (0- 1 - 0)
Although not having the most impressive fight record, Christoffer's first professional was a European title fight at the 10th Legion Championship and will fight again at their Decemation event in febuary against Chris Smith.

**The records are supplied by MMAUniverse.com, sherdog.com or the fighters gyms**

Tapout Mouthguard Review

They call it the most advanced mouthguard ever, it has a $30.000 dental warrenty, it's rather cheap and on top of that it looks very cool.

Very appealing wrapping, almost promising machoness
I haven't fully tested the mouth guards protection of my teeth, because that could result in loss of teeth and at least a bad headache.
What I have tested is the fit and the feel and how user-friendly it is.

It isn't really clear what makes this mouth guard the "most advanced mouth guard ever created" apart from the good looks, it looks kind of ordinary shaped and the tapout mouth gueard homepage does not give out much information. The only thing that seems special is the straps which you can put on the mouthguard making it easier to boil for the fitting.

It really does look very very nice!

When you have fitted the mouthguard it is still difficult to see what's so advanced about it. It feels like my first standard mouth guard... only a bit cooler.
As is said earlier I can't tell how well it protects my teeth all i can do is trust Tapouts marketing. The only thing I know is that, because I have to bit down on the rather thick middle piece all the time, I get cramps in my jaw muscle which makes a hook to the chin a bit more painful.
... I still don't know why it is the most advanced!

Just to be sure about my review, I fitted the 2nd mouthguard and bit down even harder to make et even more tight, so that I would not have to bite down all the time. I thought that would stop my jaw muscles from cramping, but it did not stop.
My best guess is that its caused from pushing my lower forward.

Conclusion:
I don't know how good it protects, but you probably get a lot of protection at little cost. The design is also(in the tapout spirit) very cool, but because I can't use use it, I cannot give it a higher score than just average.
But if you really like the looks, there is many people who does not have these problems.
If you want the best protection I would go for a dental made mouthguard or a shockdoctor gel max(which i really like).

Overall score: 5/10

A New big Opportunity for a Danish Fighter, Morten Djursaa in title fight at 10th legion.

The danish fighter Morten Djursaa who won his 7th victory at fightergalla 10, is scheduled for a shot at the 10th legion fighting championship welterweight title at the 'Rise of Olympia' in may next year.

His opponent the Jess Liaudin is a UFC veteran but won his first fight at 10th legion over Pete Irving winning him the title. Jess Liaudin likes to throw spectacular kicks and Morten Djursaa basicly chops people apart with lowkicks, so you can expect a bit of a teakwondo fight :)

Three other danish fighters will appear at this event, Joachim Christensen, David Rosmon and Christoffer Hansen.
Joachim Christensen will fight for the European light heavyweight title!

Denmark According to Bubber (Danmark ifølge Bubber): MMA

Tonight is probably the first time that MMA has full program i prime time on national television.
I had to watch the program the second it was available online, so tonight was the second view, which gave me the opportunity to "analyze" it.
First of all, it was a really good program and the guys from fightcraft are really pleasant people. And it doesn't surprise anyone that bubber is a big sissy and he had a lot of prejudice towards MMA even after having filmed the show and trained with the guys. Despite that he succedes in communicating the fact that fighters are normal people.

My first opposition to the program is the title and that they over and over again says 'Ultimate fighting' even though they were told that the sports name is 'Mixed Martial Arts'. The second thing that i do not like is that he keeps calling it violent and violence although he admits that the fighters are not violent psychopaths, and in the final comment he call it 'an outlet for a need for violence'.

I don't think Bubber thinks of it as a serious sport with good athletes and he really does not treat the sport that way.

On his blog Bubber writes of the unique and sharing community and the harmony of people who are that well trained which kind of makes up for calling fighters 'people who needs an outlet for violence'.

If you want to see the full fight check out this earlier post:

Chokem glove review!

I have had these gloves for some time time now, which has given me plenty of time to test it out and find every little detail about the gloves. My gloves are 14 oz because i have rather small hands and they vary a bit in size.

When you first get these gloves the padding, like with every other glove, pretty compact and hard. After some bagwork/mits and use they become rather soft.

The gloves are made of rather thin leather which after some time becomes a little lose on top of the padding and loses some of the print. Also the strip that tightens the glove has after about half a year started cracking, what is really annoying is that the velcro is broken so that i either have to tape them or risk giving your sparring partners a nasty rash.

The gloves are quite comfortable, but they are rather large which does not give you the best protection. The thumb is not stuck to glove with a little strip but that does not mean that you thumb is protected and i have lost count on how many times i have injured my thumb.

My gloves are the 14oz which isn't the most padded version of the glove, for most gloves 14oz is good protection but like many other thai gloves a lot of the padding is on the back of the glove. That does not leave much padding for protecting your partner at you could wish for.

Being a rather flexible glove, the clinch and takedown ability of these gloves a good, and get even better if you cut the strip that tie you thumb to the rest of the glove.

The price of the gloves is around £60 at http://www.jabb.se/

Quality and durability: 5/10
Comfort: 6/10
Protection and support of the hand: 5/10
Protection to Partner: 5/10
Clinch and takedown: 7/10
Looks: 6/10
Value: 4/10
Overall: 5/10

Conclusion

The prices of this glove is rather high compared to what you get. It is not gloves that lasts forever and they wear out pretty quick. This glove is not suited hardcore sparring.

Cyclone gi review. There's a reason it's cheap!

There is a lot of fighting gear out there to choose from, it ranges from very expensive to very cheap.  I know I am not the only one who checks the internet for reviews before I buy something, but there isn’t really a lot of fight gear reviews.  This is really a shame because it is hard to tell the difference between two pairs of gloves and sometimes there is no. Therefore I will review as much gear as I can possibly get to.

First impression
My first review will be the cyclone Ju jitsu gi in black, which is a fairly cheap gi that I bought(not used) from one of my friends. The price is €60 or $70 on http://www.mmauniverse.com
The first impression I had of the gi was when is used it before I washed, which was a really big mistake.  The dye from the gi covered me, some of the mats and every white gi I rolled with.
After that class I went straight home and washed it with vinegar several times. Next training did not go any better, although I didn’t spread dye all over, it now strewed small flocs or threads all over me and people in white gis.

The upper part of the gi
The cyclone gi is a very heavy gi with a pretty rough weaving. Although it is not i lightweight gi it is pretty soft and if you dry tumble it, the gi will actually feel rather comfortable. The collar is really thick and stiff, which makes it difficult to get a good grip at but might also give you a rash on you neck, especially if you don't dry tumble.
The flocking has almost stopped after numerous washes.

The gi pants
The pant are not very nice! First of all the material that they are made of isn't very nice. It is like a stiff canvas that does not give you the best freedom of movement and when you get a little sweaty they will glue to your legs.
Tying the pants isn't very easy and you will probably have to retie them many times during training. And after training when you want to take them of you might not be able to it.

Overall
The overall feeling of this gi is good value, so if you don't want to spend £150 on a high end gi, this is a good choice. Its a bit heavy and with a stiff collar which makes more difficult to grap for your opponent but the extra weight might inhibit your grappling and make it harder to make weight!
You should keep in mind that before you use it, you should wash it 2 or 3 times with vinegar to make shure that it does not loose it's color.

How to get rid of rid of impetigo or staph infection, 6 good pieces of advice.

Many athletes practicing contact sports have suffered from Impetigo at some point. Impetigo is normally a children’s disease, so it is pretty ironic that it’s seen so often in ‘manly’ sports like MMA, wrestling and football.
Impetigo is caused by the bacteria staphylococcus or Streptococcus infecting the skin through even the smallest opening, and it is extremely contagious.
Once impetigo is in the gym it is very hard to get rid of it, mostly because it’s hard to keep track of all your training partner’s skin condition, but here is something to think about that might help you avoid those nasty wounds and help against a lot of other skin disorders.

The carrier might not get the symptoms – Sometimes impetigo can reappear again and again even though nobody else seems to be infected. The reason is that the bacteria are pretty common bacteria in the nostrils and throat.

Avoid spreading you bacteria to your training partners – If you tend to sweat a lot or work or work at a place where you are likely to pick up germs, do your training partners a favor and take a shower before training.
It is also good to wear a rashguard although it will not stop you from spreading or catching impetigo, it will help against some skin disorders and minimize the amount of scrape you get.
And most importantly never train i you know that you are infected with anything that is contagious.

Take good care of cuts and scrapes – Run some chlorhexidine or other antiseptics on any breaches of your skin. This is not only good to do if you rolled with somebody who turned out to have impetigo.  It will take care of a lot of skin disorders and will help heal your battle wounds.

Wash yourself with salt water – There are a lot of different skin care products for wrestlers which are antiseptic, but washing yourself with these can be rough for your skin, wallet and the environment.
Instead you can get rid of the germs by pouring salt water over you after taking a bath and then air dry. The salt will dry out and kill the bacteria, this is the oldest trick in the book and might also be accomplished by swimming in the ocean!

Wash your training gear - After every class and on the highest possible temperature that doesn't ruining the cloth. Washing it with antiseptics will not only kill the bacteria but also remove a lot of the smell.
Washing rashguards with prints on 40 degrees Celsius will probably destroy the print, but you should consider it anyway or maybe get another rashguard.

Get antibiotics and stay on them – If get infected make sure to make your doctor prescribe some antibiotics instead of lotion or similar. The antibiotics will effectively kill all the impetigo and will not miss anything, as you may do with lotion.
Supplementing the antibiotics with lotion will make those wounds go away fasters, but it is important that you stay on the antibiotics for at least as long as prescribed or longer if needed.  If you don’t you might still risk infecting your training partners and even make the impetigo bacteria resistant.

Danish tv-star Bubber in MMA fight. Video included!

Bubber "the beast" a national tv host who is know for being a bit of a sissy, is making the second season of his show "Danmark ifølge Bubber"(Denmark according to Bubber). In this show he tries out many different things such as: cross dressing, swinging, stripping and soon also MMA.
In the show he will try to train like an MMA fighter and ultimately fight a (show) MMA fight.
As far as i know, this is the first time that MMA is in focus on a national channel in primetime! It will be really exciting to watch how MMA is portrayed, but i know that Tue(mmareporter.dk/) will do a good job, and bubber usually don't say any bad things about anybody. So in the day after the show, we expect some new people at our gym.

The show is to be aired some time in october, but good quality footage of his MMA fight has already been posted to youtube:

If you want to see Kenneth Rosforts full fight check out this post:

First post! Why not make a blog?

It's thirty minutes past midnight, i should be a sleep.
For some time now i have been wanting to create a blog of my own. I finally decided to do it because one of my training partners is blogging from his MMA camp i Thailand:
http://redbeardstale.blogspot.com/

I intent to use my blog for the same purposes and blog from trip to a MMA camp in USA.
In my future post i will write more about myself, my training, my fights and of course my plans and preparations for my camps.
